Year 2011

Names: The File Name

Boring but important: how the naming system works. This post dovetails with The Project Folder post.

Profile Tip: Timber Beam

A simple and useful tip from ArchiCAD talk, but perhaps more useful to inspire profile tool lateral thinking.

Ingenhoven

Who does google call for 600,000 new sf of the greenest, most sustainable building possible? Have a look.

Best Practices: Material Schemes

Material taxonomy is a big loose end in our standard template. Sigh.

Energy Use: Infographic

A rendering of energy flows in the United States in 2008. Lawrence Livermore Labs updates one of these each year.

Amazing and informative:

Door & Window Parameter Transfer Tip

ArchiCad window and door settings – oh the granularity!

As it turns out, it is possible to transfer variable values between different objects. The usual parameter transfer techniques will move “as many variables as possible” between different library parts.

Two methods:

  1. transfer settings you like to a new default window
  2. transfer settings you like from a selected window to a new default window

More details here.

Director’s Notes

Well this is interesting. Let me tell you all the ways you can be better.

Almost-flat Roofs

Archicadwiki has a nice – because short and to the point – article about how to model flat or near-flat roofs using various interacting combinations of slab, mesh, and roof.
